1989 State Champions Baseball

Recently, we received a baseball signed by 11 players of the 1989 Salem High Baseball State champions. The ball is in poor condition, only some of the autographs are legible. It is signed on a Little League baseball just like the one we previously got.

The legible signatures are: Coach Al Giardi, Danny Babcock, Danny Hall, Jeff Juden, Doug Canney, Andrew Viglas, Zach Zegarowski, and Jim Ready

More images of the baseball can be seen here: http://salemarchives.org/sport/juden.htm

Jeff Juden Signed Baseball!

Just this morning on a trip to Witch City Consignments I found this very early Jeff Juden signed baseball. It is a Little League ball, I believe it was signed in the mid 1980's.

All of Juden's professional baseball autographs are signed Jeff, while this one is signed Jeffery.

It was also signed by another player. Both players played for Salem High on their State championship winning team. It is most likely signed while They played little league, since the other player didn't number it with his high school number.

Military Themed Items Added To The Collection

The flag and card are from the funeral procession from Salem's fallen soldier Sgt. Ayube. They were passed out along the procession route. The star on the bag is a remembrance piece for Sgt. Ayube. the star comes from a worn US flag.

The Salem Coast Guard search and rescue patch is from the late 1950's or 60's.

The last piece if a V Mail letter from World War II. The sender was a Sgt stationed in New Guinea. It was mailed to a Salem address. The content is about daily life in the Army with some talk about his commanding officer.

Latest Addition: Puleo's Dairy Milk Bottle

This quart size Puleo's Dairy glass bottle is the latest item in the collection. As you can see it contained some of their yummy egg nog. As we tweeted a while ago this year they offer their egg nog in vintage glass bottles.

For display purposes it is filled with Styrofoam beads so you can see the designs. The front has the Puleo's Dairy logo and the back has (in sort of the 1940's look) "Wise mothers choose Puleo's milk".

The egg nog in glass bottles can still be purchased. This was bought from their downtown Salem location on Washington st. It retails for $4.00.

JC Oil Company Thermometer

I recently hit one of the few stores I regularly go to and saw this J.C. Company Oils thermometer on the shelf and couldn't leave it there. The only clue it is from Salem is the telephone number witch is listed as PIoneer 4-4277 which means it most likely dates to post WWII through the 1960's.
An interesting bit of trivia about Salem's early phone exchange being PIoneer is that we got it since Alexander Graham Bell lived in Salem when he invented the telephone. So, he was a pioneer in the telephone industry and Salem got the exchange.
